This absolutely fabulous circle skirt by Retro Diva was heavily inspired by Grace Kelly’s wardrobes in Hitchcock’s films ‘To Catch a Thief’ and ‘The Rear Window‘. The outfits were designed by the incredible academy award-winning designer Edith Head.

Images are not my own and sourced from Google | Left – Rear Window. Right – To Catch a Thief.

We understood that we were trying to fill the shoes of two of Old Hollywoods most iconic women. We wanted to make the skirt as loving nod to them instead of just copying them.

I fell in love with the length of the skirt, it falls just above my ankle (I’m 5ft 4″). It’s classic, elegant and just perfect. There is a thick band around the waist to add a flattering nipped-in waistline effect.

We took the idea of the length of the skirt in ‘Rear Window’ and the breathable material of the cover-up skirt from ‘To Catch a Thief’. I wore this skirt whilst visiting Niagara Falls last July, it was such a hot day but thanks to the skirts breathable material- I never once felt like I was overheating.

It was important to us to not add embellishments so we didn’t distract from the simple elegance of the skirt. There is one simple detail; Retro Diva found a beautiful zip with a brass love heart pull that sits at the bottom of my back.

A special thank you goes out to Dunwood Hall and Roaches Hall. The incredible locations for the backdrop to these vintage style creations.
